WHY YOU SHOULD START A BLOG

WHY YOU SHOULD START A BLOG

A lot of people think about starting a blog but don’t know if it is actually something they want to pursue. They either feel like they have nothing to blog about, that their life is not interesting enough, that no one is interested in their hobbies or they are just plain scared of what other people will think of them.

In this blog post, I will tell you why these insecurities are rubbish and why you should just do it. I will tell you my story and what blogging has done personally for me.

WHEN I FIRST STARTED BLOGGING

The sigma and weirdness of being a blogger is a lot less than it used to be.
I remember a few years back when I started my first (failed) blog. I didn’t tell anyone because I was scared that they thought it was weird and stupid. I was worried that they were going to make fun of me and my blog, so I kept it hidden. After a while, a lot of people somehow found out and they all loved it. So many of my friends would email or text me, with great blog ideas and they would also offer me constructive feedback.

I found that there is no reason to hide your blog because people will like it and will help you to improve your blog.

If you are worried that people will find it weird or strange that you want to be a blogger, then, first of all, you are most likely worried about nothing. For me, people were impressed.  They wanted to know how I got started (It was easy!),  and why I started a blog (It was on a whim after a break-up).

What I’m trying to say is that nobody called me out or made me feel bad. Maybe people judged behind my back – but if they want to do that, that’s fine me  – as the saying goes “its none of my business what people say or think of me, I am what I am and I do what I do”.

IMPROVE YOURSELF

I have been very insecure my entire life. I have always felt that I was not pretty enough, not smart enough, not funny enough etc. By writing, taking pictures and just being creative in general I start to feel more self-confident in myself.

For me, it is keeping myself busy, so that I cant doubt myself or think negatively about myself. It has also helped me with a break-up. By writing, doing research and by taking pictures, I kept myself busy and I mended my broken heart.

If you are insecure and feel like you are not worthy enough, then you are wrong. Besides, it will help you feel better and will help you improve on so many skills. Some of the skills that I have improved through blogging are:

  • My writing skills
  • Improved my photography skills
  • I now know how WordPress works and I can fix small errors
  • Advance information about social media marketing
  • How Pinterest works
  • How to create (simple) graphics

Even if blogging wouldn’t work out for me, I have a lot of skills that I can now add to my resume. You would be able to do the same too.

KEEP GOING

The downside of having a brand new blog is that you need to build up an audience, and that doesn’t happen overnight. So often I post blog posts that I think are pretty killer but not a lot of people read them. That can be very frustrating, but I know building a blog takes time.  This is the main reason why you need to start a blog. In the first few months and maybe even years, you will not have thousands of visitors per day (Those success stories that you read online are rare, yes it does happen that people are a success overnight but it doesn’t happen that often) You need to build up an accord with your followers, build up good quality content and a following on your social networking sites.

Keep going and keep writing good quality posts. I don’t think you need to post every single day, it is more about posting good quality blog posts as this will keep people coming back for more.

I know that to keep going is not that easy. Only last week I got super frustrated as well, I have been blogging for 3-4 months now and I feel like no one is really reading or even liking my blog. But I know (and I hope) that this is only temporary and that in the near future I will get more followers and some more action on my blog.

Whether you want to start a lifestyle blog, a travel blog, a beauty blog or whatever……. Please start it. Blog your heart out. Be authentic. Be yourself and your audience will come.

My step-by-set guide will show you exacly how you can start one TODAY!

FINDING TIME TO BLOG

WHY YOU SHOULD START A BLOG

This is the biggest hurdle, for a lot of bloggers. Coming up with content, researching it, writing a post, taking pictures, editing pictures, proofreading your posts, making graphics, planning it in on social media and even more are just some of the things that you need to do as a blogger.  But I think that if you like blogging and you are low on time, you will prioritize it.

See, here’s the thing – If you fall into that “I’m too busy to blog” category, yet you’re reading this – you could be using this time to blog. (Please read some more of my posts while you’re here please, thanks haha)

I work full time as a hotel manager. I still manage to write, edit and post three blog posts per week. In my downtime is when I get most done – During my lunch break I often do research and in the evening after work, I write a lot of posts. On the weekends I often write 1 post and proofread the previous once. (I’ve written this entire post on a Saturday evening with the TV on in the background)

If you are worried that you do not have enough time but still want to blog, then I advise you to just make a plan and stick to it. Also, only upload one post per week initially this will help you to de-stress.

MY BLOGGING FUTURE – HOPES AND DREAMS

If I can make a steady income out of my blog and I could travel and blog at the same time, I would take it in a heartbeat.
I would love to stop my 9-5 job and work full-time on my blog – heaven.

I will be honest with you and I will tell you what my (current plans are)

  • Post a blog 3 times a week
Increase the current quality, cause it might not be good enough
  • Increase my Pinterest strategy
I, sort off, have a strategy but I think I can do better. I know that Pinterest is super important and I know that this site is the key to more traffic and more followers.
I have taken 2 Pinterest courses (Which one can be found in the resources post) and I will start implementing that from NOW.
  • Improve my graphics game – I think I can improve on that division
  • Improve my blog post layouts. For example, my main pictures are too large for Bloglovn, therefore my feed looks like poo. I want to make sure a great main picture will be at the top of my post so that improves my feed.

I am wondering if you guys would be interested to see a post, maybe once a month, on the changes that I have implemented and whether they had an effect on my blog (either positive or negative) If you are interested in posts like that please let me know in the comments below. If no one leaves a reply then I’ll take that as a no haha. For me, it doesn’t matter, but other bloggers who are starting out might be interested in knowing what I have done and whether it helped so that they can implement it in their blog when it was effective. I like to blog about blogging, so let me know (even though this is off-topic for my travel and lifestyle blog, but who cares)

When you start a blog you don’t need to have any aspirations for it. You can make it as big or as little as you like. You can blog as often as you like, you can decide to use Pinterest or not, you can make social media accounts for your blog or not.
You can decide what you want to do with your website.  Don’t feel pressured into making it a big spectacle if you don’t really feel like doing that.

LONG STORY SHORT

If you are thinking about starting a blog but you are not sure if you should and you are asking me to advise then I would say the following to you: If you think you’d like blogging, then DO IT. It doesn’t matter what others think about your hobby. If you are happy, then they should be happy for you too. If they think its weird or stupid, then they shouldn’t be your friends. Who needs that kind of negativity in their life? NOT ME!
How to start a blog

If you are worried about the cost – you can pretty much start out for free and slowly build up your site. Initially, it doesn’t cost a thing and you can see if this is something you are interested in.

I have set up a step-by-step guide on how to start a blog. It shows all the steps that you need to take, from coming up with a name to signing up with WordPress and posting your first blogs.

SO, SOME REASONS TO START A BLOG:

  • It is a great confident booster
  • It helps your creative spark
  • It can be a money-making side hustle
  • Blogging looks great on a resume.
  • You’ll have something you did all by yourself to be proud of
  • It is just heaps of fun!

Hi. I just started blogging about 2 months ago, and I can relate with most of the things you said. It’s encouraging to know there’s someone out there who feels like I do and wants to keep at it. I didn’t know Pinterest had added advantages, I will look into it, thanks for the pointer. Best wishes and kindly check out my blog too andeelishaphilosophy.com

Hey, I just started my blog about few days ago. I am a personal blogger. Please can you suggest me some tips on how do I make my blog reach more people and also how to improve? What are the dos and don’ts? I am new at this and I would really like to know. Also, can you explain how does the pintrest adds to the blog?

In the beginning, it is all about writing good quality blog posts. Once you have built up at least 10 great quality posts you can start promoting them on your social media accounts. (I only have Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest)
Pinterest is a search engine that people use to look up all types of information. For most bloggers, it is their number 1 tool in getting traffic to their blog. I highly suggest you set an account and joining group boards and pin your posts on there. That will increase your reach tremendously.
