An incredible day trip to Fitzroy Island | Cairns, Queensland

Only a 45-minute ferry ride from the Tropical Far North Queensland town of Cairns you can find beautiful Fitzroy Island. Home the number one beach in Australia, lots of snorkeling options and plenty of wildlife, this island is not to be missed when traveling to Cairns. The island is filled with stunning nature, it has a lack of cars, surrounded by stunning turquoise ocean, and many wild turtles! It is no surprise that many people pop over this island to get away for the hustle and bustle of city life. Attracting almost 320,000 this island is however not yet overrun by tourists, making it a nice little must-see heaven.  Because of it close locating it makes Fitzroy Island a perfect for a day trip. But what should you do when spending one day in Fitzroy? Check it out below….

Cape Tribulation | Half a day snorkelling at the Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef in Northern Queensland is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1981. Due to pollution and bleaching, the reef is in a bit of trouble. When I, therefore, had the chance of snorkelling at two different locations during a snorkel safari I jumped at the chance. If I had known that there would be a storm and that the ocean was going to be choppy, I might have reconsidered…. But there was no way out. In this post, I will take you along on a trip with Ocean Safari. I will show you the two snorkelling sites, what it is like to take this trip, what you can expect and what happens when massive waves interfere with your trip.

SNORKELING AT THE GREAT BARRIER REEF

For my birthday I had booked a short trip up to Airlie Beach, Queensland and planned on spending one day of my trip snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef. I have always been fascinated by the GBR and so I booked a full day cruise with a snorkel excursion departing from the Port of Airlie.  I couldn’t have been more excited to explore the famous and imposing reefs! In this post, I will show you what it was like, which fishes and other wildlife I encountered on this once in a lifetime adventure.
